Sunday and Wednesday Services (Acts 2:42)

Sunday and Wednesday youth services here primarily consist of a time of worship and teaching, similar to the adult service here at Calvary. On Wednesday nights, we break up into small groups after the teaching, where guys and girls are able to discuss in more detail the study and focus on how it can be applied personally as well as spend time in prayer.

We believe the two primary objectives for the church in its gathering together are to be that of worship and discipleship (see Acts 2:42 & Ephesians 4:11-12). For this reason, our youth services are directed toward the believer. Evangelization is incorporated depending upon what we are going through but worship and discipleship are the primary focus. During the school year we generally go through some key books of the Bible teaching verse-by-verse, chapter-by-chapter. Often in the summer months, we will focus on some of the relevant themes of Scripture. Youth are free to interact with the teacher during the study through asking and answering questions and reading some of the Scriptures.

Activities (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Once a month, we try to provide some activity outside of the weekly services. The purpose of this time is to build relationships and provide a safe environment for fun and fellowship. These activities also provide an opportunity for the youth to invite friends to youth group that do not regularly come to church. The activities range depending upon the time of year. Some of the more common activities have been game nights at the church, BBQ’s, broom hockey, bowling, and beach trips.

There are also two retreats for the youth each year, one in the summer and the other sometime mid-winter. The cost can run anywhere from $70-$100. Retreats can be a very fruitful time in the lives of youth in that they provide them with an opportunity to get away from the daily routine of life with its common distractions and focus on Jesus with other believers.

Opportunties to Serve (1 Peter 4:10)

There are two general ways youth can become more involved in serving in the middle school ministry. Those who have a talent or gift in music or singing and who are of good reputation are able to be a part of the worship team. There is also a servant team which is involved in assisting in a variety of different ways (getting ready for youth activites, cleaning the youth room after services, helping print the newsletter, etc.) For more infomation about either of these ministry opportunities, contact Sam Christensen.

Insight Newsletter

The Middle School Newsletter, Insight, is something many of the youth look forward to receiving every other month. There is a whole assortment of fun and edifying material in it from pictures to articles and humor to information about upcoming events. If you are interested in having this mailed to you, please contact Sam Christensen.
